Before and after recutting

My priorities are, best brilliance first, then biggest possible dimension
and last but not least weight retention.

All the below gemstones have been recut, because their beauty was compromised through a less than optimum cut. They where either faceted for weight retention, or on old faceting machines or on machines which do not permit to read the faceting angles or by inexperienced faceters, or a combination of all above.

See for yourself the difference after the stones have been recut. Only now do they reveal their beauty and show the true nature of a gemstone.

resulting in reduced brilliance.

Irregular shape with a window,
resulting in reduced brilliance.
Dimension : 7.99 x 6.77 x 4.59 mm
Weight : 1.64 ct
Cut for best brilliance.

Weight : 12.89 ct
Irregular shape with a window,
resulting in reduced brilliance.
Dimension : 15.50 x 11.68 mm
Weight : 8.95 ct
Cut for best brilliance.
Loss of weight -30.56%

Weight : 3.17 ct
Emerald with dark reflections and
inclusions reflecting serveral times.
Dimension : not changed
Weight : 3.01 ct
This emerald has been partially recut to remove some inclusions, to avoid reflection of the remaining ones and to improve black facets.
Retaining weight was of outmost importance. Loss of weight -5.04%

Dimension : 11.56 x 7.88 x 5.71 mm
Weight : 3.36 ct
Cut for best brilliance.
Loss of weight -36.12%
 

 

Dimension : 12.40 x 12.40 x 5.30 mm
Weight : 5.99 ct
Irregular shape with a window,
resulting in reduced brilliance.
C-Axis was darkening the Tourmaline.
Dimension : 10.46 x 7.52 x 4.76 mm
Weight : 3.03 ct
Remove dark reflection of C-Axis.
Cut for best brilliance.
Loss of weight -49.41%
